Team Dances usually occur during the mid-competition in Dancing with the Stars. They were first introduced in Season 7.
The eight couples remaining are split into two groups of four. The two couples with the highest scores so far became team captains.

- Tamar Braxton is the only celebrity to take part in the team dance and withdraw from the competition.
- In seasons 22 and 24, the team match was officially boys vs. girls, Team James Brown and Beyoncé in season 22, Team Boy Band and Girl Group in season 24.
- Team James Brown and Boy Band consisted of the male celebrities and Team Beyoncé and Girl Group consisted of the female celebrities.
- However, in terms of the pros, the boys were on Team Beyoncé and Girl Group, and the girls were on Team James Brown and Boy Band, meaning the pros would be placed on the team representing the opposite gender.
- Team Loca from season 18 and Team Future from season 23 both also had all girls as celebrities and all boys as professionals.
- Team James Brown and Boy Band consisted of the male celebrities and Team Beyoncé and Girl Group consisted of the female celebrities.
- Team Loca was scored based on dress rehearsal, due to Amy Purdy's injury. Despite this, they were still the higher scoring team.
